For those of us raising a child with special needs you may find that they have specific cravings for sensory input. This is the case especially for many children with autism. Some of the common sensory input signs you’ll notice in children with Autism are spinning, rocking, and possibly even head banging. In our case with Shayla she has a number of sensory needs like, jumping, water play, and hand wringing is a BIG one for her, as she’s constantly doing it as long as she’s awake.
So recently Annasha discovered this PlayFoam which is something that seems to meet Shayla’s hand wringing sensory needs. From time to time when we’re just sitting around the house we’ll fill a little bin with this PlayFoam and Shayla will instantly go to it and rest her hands in the foam and play around in it.
And YES!! For that moment in time no more hand wringing.
So one of the key things to note is that this PlayFoam can get a little messy but at the same time it’s really easy to clean up. In preparation for play time with the foam we usually lay out a blanket that we can put a bin filled with the PlayFoam on it so that any foam that spills over can be easily collected on the blanket and poured right back into the tube containers for the next play time.
The foam comes in a variety of colours and usually comes as pair to make it a more colourful play time. To pick up pick up some PlayFoam for your little one simply click here.
